Former Indian skipper and current president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly has often been quizzed about a biopic made on his life. Dada, as he is fondly called, has revealed several times that many filmmakers approached him to make a movie/show on his life but nothing has been finalised. Moreover, when Ganguly was quizzed who should play him on the big screen, he had quipped Hrithik Roshan’s name.
Earlier, it was said that Ekta Kapoor is eyeing to make a biopic on Ganguly and during an interaction with Asian Age, he was quizzed about the same. To which Dada stated, “Is it, Ekta Kapoor? Then yes, she approached me and we talked about it once. Nothing went further than that. I have never thought of a biopic [on me] though there are a host of sports biopics being made. If there is time, then someone will make one on me. Hope people would be interested in seeing the film.”
Now as per reports in Mumbai Mirror, Dada is in talks with ace filmmaker Karan Johar to make a biopic on his life and times. The tabloid also reported that they both have had a couple of meetings and are currently in the hunt for the lead actor. We have to wait for an official announcement as this surely sounds a great collaboration.
The Prince of Calcutta went on to talk about earlier biopics made on cricketers. He said, “I liked the MS Dhoni biopic, [M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story]. Tendulkar’s biopic [Sachin A Billion Dreams] was a little different. Now we have a film on the 1983 World Cup-winning team. That will be huge and I will definitely watch it. As far as my biopic is concerned, we will wait and see.”
