1. 5th Youngest player in Test Cricket:
Tendulkar is the fifth-youngest player in Test cricket history to make his Test debut vs Pakistan at Karachi on 15th November, 1989. He was then only 16 years and 205 days old.
2. Son of a Poet:
Tendulkar was born at Nirmal Nursing Home in Dadar, Bombay on 24 April 1973 to a Maharashtrian family. His father, Ramesh Tendulkar, was a well-known Marathi novelist & poet and his mother, Rajni, worked in the insurance industry. Ramesh named Tendulkar after his favorite music director, Sachin Dev Burman.
3. One Rupee reward for his wicket!
Sachin was coached under the guidance of Achrekar at Shivaji Park in the mornings and evenings during his childhood. Tendulkar would practice for hours on end in the nets. If he became exhausted, Achrekar would put a one-rupee coin on the top of the stumps, and the bowler who dismissed Tendulkar would get the coin. If Tendulkar passed the whole session without getting dismissed, the coach would give him the coin. Tendulkar now considers the 13 coins he won then as some of his most prized possessions.
4. Served as a ball boy:
During the 1987 World Cup, Sachin was a ball boy for the match between India and Zimbabwe at the Wankhede Stadium. He was 14 then. For his love for cricket, Sachin Tendulkar used to sleep with his cricket gear during his childhood days.
5. First overseas-born player to represent Yorkshire:
In 1992, at the age of 19, Tendulkar became the first overseas-born player to represent Yorkshire, which prior to Tendulkar joining the team, never selected players even from outside Yorkshire. Selected for Yorkshire as a replacement for the injured Australian fast bowler Craig McDermott, Tendulkar played 16 first-class matches for the county and scored 1070 runs at an average of 46.52.

6. First International cricketer to be given out by a third umpire:
Yes, Sachin Tendulkar was the first international batsman to be given out by a third-umpire. In 1992, on the second day of the Durban Test, a Jonty Rhodes throw caught Tendulkar short of the crease. After watching TV replays, he was adjudged out. Karl Liebenberg of South Africa was the third umpire in the match.

Anjali is a paediatrician and six years older than Sachin Tendulkar.
